The 2024 World Cleanup Day in China, spearheaded by Shanghai Pudong Life Environmental Promotion Center (Pickup China), saw over 260,000 participants engaging in 3,497 waste cleanup events across the nation, collecting a record 1,253.04 tons of waste, including 4,689.38 kg of recyclables. This marks the first year since the UN designated September 20th as World Cleanup Day. The initiative spanned 31 provincial administrative regions with a total of 1.62 million participants and 3,277 tons of waste cleared since 2018. The campaign involved various channels, with the coordination center leading at 62%, followed by Gudong at 25%, and other platforms. Special events included environmental poetry and a 100-day plastic bottle recycling challenge, while media coverage and social media engagement reached hundreds of millions. This is the 7th year of Pickup China host World Cleanup Day in China.
