Colm Flynn interviews members of Let’s Do It World HQ team in the 2023 Broadcast at the Estonian House, New York, during the UN General Assembly week

On Friday 20 September, as the world comes together for World Cleanup Day 2024, we’ll be broadcasting an 11-hour production for viewers worldwide.

Tune in from 03:00 UTC to 14:00 UTC to watch, learn and celebrate as we showcase the efforts of those leading global efforts to tackle mismanaged waste, and the millions of people taking part in the world’s biggest environmental civic action.

Hosted by Colm Flynn and broadcast from the Let’s Do It World headquarters in Tallinn, the show will follow the sun's progress around the globe, as environmental heroes all over the planet carry out their cleanups in a giant wave of collective action.

Beginning in Oceania and continuing through Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas, the broadcast will cover local cleanups, bring scientific insights into the issue of mismanaged waste, and bring you live updates on World Cleanup Day’s first year as an official day in the United Nations calendar.

Highlights will include:

  • Live interviews with Let's Do It World leaders worldwide, with insights into the successes and impact of their national cleanups.
  • A special bridge to Tromsø, Norway for a livestream of the United Nations inaugural event celebrating World Cleanup Day’s inclusion in the UN International Calendar. The event will shine a much-needed spotlight on the issues of Arctic pollution and marine pollution. Among others, it will feature an address by the Deputy Executive Director of UN-Habitat, as well as the event’s host organization, the Norwegian Retailers’ Environment Fund, and our broadcast co-hosts, GRID-Arendal. Heidi Solba, LDIW President & Head of Global Network, will be there to represent the organisation as a keynote speaker in roundtable discussions. The cross-streaming between the two events in Tromsø and Tallinn will be broadcast on the UN-Habitat website and Youtube channel.
  • Science segments focused on marine pollution, including interviews with specialists like the Taiwanese scientists working with bacteria to combat marine plastic pollution, and Captain Charles Moore, the man who first discovered the ‘Great Pacific Garbage Patch’.

The broadcast will also showcase the valued collaboration of World Cleanup Day partners Earth Day, World Wellbeing Weekend, and NORQAIN. In addition, political leaders, city mayors and World Cleanup Day ambassadors will be acknowledged for their support in making the action a success, and talk about their own initiatives to support the cause.

Throughout the day, the spotlight will be on the biggest heroes of World Cleanup Day: the Let’s Do It World country leaders, local cleanup organizers and volunteers who have dedicated their time and incredible energy to making World Cleanup Day happen.
